When we first decided on an interactive video, we created an example storyboard of the structure and the content.
The overall theme of the video will be day in the life and will start with the user waking up in the morning and the first thing they do is go on their phone where they accept cookies, download apps and log into accounts etc.
The user will then go out for coffee with friends where they connect to random WIFI’s, post their location and tag their friends. In the video it will show an advert pop up on the user’s phone for “best coffee in town” to represent how adverts are tailored to the users searches and behavior.
We’ve then got a scene with a cashier exchange where the user hands over their email for a quick and convenient interaction or even to get money off next purchase i.e. “We will email you 10% off code for your next purchase”.
Their will then be a shot of a mysterious figure and a screen that has access to all of the user’s private data that she has been unconsciously sharing all day.
Then there will be 2 business men exchanging money for the user’s data I a meeting to symbolize big companies such as Google and Facebook selling data to 3rd parties.
We would then have a data visualization of how much data and worth the user has lost in that day and how much corporations have gained from them sharing private information.
Since producing this storyboard, we have developed the idea to incorporate choices for the viewer so they will now have control over what happens to the data and how much the user shares in the experience, which at the end, the video will give you the results of how much data you lost and how much it was worth in this day etc. which would be cool to show in a data visualization.
