To kickstart this project, we firstly wrote down a long list of all of the subjects which we thought were relevant to the brief and which interest us.
From then, we each chose one aspect of society and technology which we would like to further discuss and consider as the theme behind our project:
- Ilektra: climate change
- Quincey: algorithmic biases/ cyber warfare
- Megan: data security / political correctness
- Toni: catfishing
- Owain: digital divide
After further discussion, we narrowed down our ideation into 2 main themes: Self performance, which was derived from Toni’s idea of catfishing, and surveillance, which tied in with the theme of data security and algorithmic biases. From there, we generated a few questions about each topic which would help us consider which aspect of each theme we would like to explore further.
We then split the team down the middle and set out to do independent research on self-performance and surveillance accordingly and come back with our findings to discuss further which direction we would like to take for our project.
